BYD Tang
86 kWh (2022)
The seven-seat BYD Tang is one of the thirstiest cars in the summer tests, using 216 Wh/km at 90 km/h for a range of 386 km. This likely comes down to a design shared with combustion-engined versions and the lack of a heat pump, and the cabin was noisy on 22-inch tyres. The software was frustrating: there is no trip meter or lane-centring assist, the cruise control adjusts in 5 km/h steps, and the Dirac sound system scored only 5 out of 10. The verdict: it falls well short of the MEB cars in efficiency and of German rivals in comfort.
