We have released one of the most important upgrades to meter setup in Zerofy: flexible meter roles.

As installations become more advanced, one fixed interpretation of meter data is no longer enough. Many households have a main meter, additional measurement points, and production tracking hardware. To model these systems correctly, users need explicit control over what each meter represents.

Meter roles now available

With this release, each connected meter can be assigned a role that matches its real function:

  • Main grid meter: for bidirectional import/export setups or consumption-only setups
  • Sub-meter: for tracking a dedicated consumer, such as a heat pump measured via a Shelly meter
  • Production meter: for tracking local generation, for example solar production

Why this improves both usability and optimization

Before flexible roles, users with non-standard setups often had to adapt the system mentally to fit generic labels. That made setup less clear and could reduce data quality for monitoring and automation.

With explicit roles, energy flows are easier to understand in the app, and the optimization engine gets cleaner signals. This improves plan quality and helps users trust what they see.

In short, this update is foundational: it makes Zerofy significantly better aligned with how real installations are built.
